I AM PROUD TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THE RESIDENTS OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Through my years as a Millville City Commissioner, Cumberland County Freeholder and now Commissioner Director, I have developed a passion for serving the people of Cumberland County. My passion is expressed in the simple guiding principle to “do what is right” for the residents of Cumberland County, without regard to the desires of special interests or political consequences. As Commissioner Director, I have had the privilege to lead Cumberland County through very challenging times. I am very proud of our County’s response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Led by the dedicated professionals at our County Health Department, we mobilized our resources to test and vaccinate many thousands of people. I am proud of the job we have done in disseminating critical COVID-19 information to our municipalities, coordinating resources, and fostering public-private partnerships to fight the pandemic. I am proud of our efforts to assist our small business owners with grants to help them through the challenges they face. I am proud to do what is right to save lives and livelihoods. I am proud of the difficult decision the Board of Commissioners made to halt construction of a new county jail. The politically expedient choice would have been to build the jail and deal with the consequences later. That would have made all the special interests happy, many of whom do not live in our County, but not the taxpayers of Cumberland County. I am proud of the fact that our county government made the kind of tough decision individuals and businesses make every day. Instead of wasting taxpayer money on a jail we no longer needed, we made the decision to house our detainees in underutilized correctional facilities in surrounding counties. While this decision has angered some special interests, I am proud we are doing the right thing and saving our taxpayers millions of dollars a year for many years to come. I am proud of the many important initiatives we have undertaken to improve services to our elderly, disabled and those suffering from addiction. I am proud of the work we have done to improve our county facilities, particularly the new pavilion at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Hopewell Township. I am proud of the work we have done to address our infrastructure needs, including our work to ensure County wide broadband access. I am proud of the work we have done to improve our emergency communications with the construction of new communication towers. I am particularly proud of the partnerships we have formed with our municipalities to do the right thing to improve services for our residents. As Commissioner Director, I face tough calls and I am not afraid to make them because my guiding principle is, always front and center in my mind. Whether it is making our government more efficient and responsive, promoting economic development, protecting our natural resources or improving our infrastructure, I will do the right thing for residents of Cumberland County, no matter what the special interests say.
